The Trust - About Us
At our 125th Jubilee Barbeque on 4 June 2022
BKCT is an OSCR-registered Charity with a board of Trustees. Chair: Aileen Neilson, Treasurer: Mary Stewart, Secretary & Vice Chair: Alison Irvine Other Trustees: Sheila McDonald, Rosie Stenhouse, Morag Ballantine, Evelyn Riisenberg Our Trustees are all volunteers and local residents committed to promoting activities and events based in and around the Burnturk Jubilee Hall and its Community Garden in accordance with our constitution (Trust Deed 2017). The Jubilee Hall is run by a volunteer management committee. Trustees of Burnturk and Kettlehill Community Trust were last re-elected in 2022. The Trustees normally hold an AGM in April to which the public are invited. Attendees can make suggestions for the programme of activities. The Jubilee Hall is the sole facility in our area and functions as a hub for community events and activities. A Putting Green nearby has been running since 1925. Twice-yearly litter picks continue to be arranged; the first was more than 30 years ago. The Community Garden behind the Hall is continually being worked on by local volunteers. We aim to maintain our facilities and activities so that they are resilient, flexible, affordable and respond to the needs and interests of each generation. As a charity we can access a wider range of funding and increase capacity to generate income needed to run activities. Having more local events within walking distance helps the sustainability and cohesion of the community. We live and work in a rural environment and many of these leisure activities maintain the local environment and its wildlife. |

History
The communities of Coaltown of Burnturk ("Burnturk"), Kettlehill and surrounding hamlets have a long tradition of arranging activities for their residents. These activities attract younger people to bring up their families in this area and older folk to retire and choose to remain here. There are also a number of farms and small local businesses. The community has continuous owned and run the Jubilee Hall since it was gifted in 1897. The Hall was expanded to take in the building next door in 1966.
